How to Install Monolith XL in Ten Minutes

What you need

• +The included install wrench (in the box)
• +The included PTFE thread tape (in the box)
• +A towel for the floor and one for grip
• +Ten minutes

Step one: remove the old showerhead

Turn the existing showerhead counterclockwise by hand. If it has been on for years, wrap it in the towel and use the wrench for the first half turn. Once loose, it spins off by hand. Let the arm drain for a few seconds.

Step two: clean and tape the threads

Wipe the shower arm's threads clean of old tape and mineral buildup. Wrap the included thread tape clockwise around the threads, three to four passes, pressing it into the grooves. Clockwise matters: tape wrapped the wrong way unspools as you tighten.

Step three: thread on the Monolith

Thread Monolith XL onto the arm clockwise by hand until it seats, then use the wrench for a final quarter turn. Stainless threads onto stainless cleanly; snug is enough, there is no prize for overtightening.

Angle the face where you want it. The ball joint holds position under the full weight of the chamber, wet or dry.

Step four: flush the cartridge

Run the water cold for two minutes before the first use. Every new media bed releases a small amount of harmless carbon fines on first flush; you will see them run clear in seconds. That is the entire commissioning process.

Renters, read this part

Nothing about the install is permanent. The old showerhead goes back on the same way it came off, the arm is untouched, and the Monolith travels with you. Keep the original showerhead in the box the Monolith came in, and moving day is a ten-minute job in reverse.
